Cologne, April 2014: When it comes to painting of standard and refrigerated box superstructures for commercial vehicles, concrete mixers and pumps, cranes, waste disposal vehicles and earth moving equipment: optimum mechanical properties, high productivity, process reliability, environmental responsibility and durable, perfect surface finishes are on top of the list of priorities. Consequently, these benchmarks were set during further development of the PercoTop® paint system by Axalta Coating Systems and translated into the new PercoTop 9675 Topcoat, the innovative VHS Power Primer 4000 and the chromate-free 2K Wash Primer CS 305.
Topcoat with optimised properties and improved process reliability
The new 2K High Solid Topcoat PercoTop 9675 with low solvent content was designed specially to meet the demands of coaters in the trailer and construction segments. The wide selection of activators and thinners generates a broad application window and high process reliability which allows the user to adapt their process to the technical equipment and climatic conditions.
As well as conventional spray application, both airless and airmix methods or electrostatic application can be used. It offers excellent sagging performance and flow, especially on complex shapes with overlapping spray zones. Depending on the colour, its good coverage means that a high-quality surface finish can be achieved even in 1.5 coats. As a result, savings are made in terms of application time and material consumption. Furthermore, fast processing, short drying times and high yield create increased productivity and cost effectiveness in the coating process.
The coated surfaces are characterised by superior resistance to mechanical, chemical and climatic influences.
PercoTop VHS Power Primer 4000: the multi-substrate solution also for high layer thicknesses
The newly developed high solid primer sets the standard without compromising quality or productivity. The innovative PercoTop VHS Power Primer 4000 can be applied as an adhesion primer, primer filler and sanding filler in just one coat and, if required, used as high-build filler using all standard application methods. Thanks to the primer’s high sagging resistance, it achieves a high layer thickness on a wide variety of substrates, such as aluminium, steel, sand-blasted, iron and zinc phosphated, galvanized, sendzimir-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized steel. The good sandability of the primer results in faster processing times, low sandpaper consumption and optimized topcoat appearance.
Chromate-free 2K Wash Primer: high corrosion protection for difficult substrates
By the development of the PercoTop 2K Wash Primer CS 305, Axalta Coating Systems has created a chromate-free, environmentally responsible alternative to primers containing chromate. The primer is REACH compliant and meets current and future environmental regulations. When it comes to process reliability, the primer, which is formulated on the basis of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), also makes a good impression. It can be applied using all standard coating methods, including electrostatic application, and adheres extremely well, even to substrates which are particularly difficult to coat such as stainless steel. In addition, superior coverage, excellent overspray melt-in and quick drying contribute to increased productivity – in particular in the case of large surfaces. The CS 305 Wash Primer can be coated with all PercoTop 2K polyurethane-based fillers.
New delivery concept for PercoTop products
Axalta Coating Systems fulfils the demands of its customers not only with new products, but also with its customer-oriented delivery concept. The Basic category contains all paint material where delivery is made three working days after ordering. The Premium and Best categories were created for the delivery of topcoats. For paints ordered before noon, Premium guarantees delivery by 4pm at the latest the following working day. Things go even faster with Best orders placed before noon. These will be delivered by 8 am the next day, that is, in less than 24 hours.
