Axalta Aqua EC electrodeposition coatings

Extra quality, efficiency and environmentally responsible

High-performance solutions for the automotive supply industry, as well as for painting agricultural machinery and fork-lift trucks and even electronic components and jewellery

Cologne, April 2014: Electrodeposition coating is one of the most efficient methods used in industrial coatings technology. With the cathodic electrodeposition coating systems Aqua EC 3000 and the single-layer electrodeposition coatings Aqua EC 5100 and Aqua EC 5500, Axalta Coating Systems offers water-based solutions which not only combine first-class protective qualities with high levels of environmental responsibility and cost effectiveness, but are also perfectly adapted for the most varied applications and sector requirements. All electrodeposition coatings are compatible with the new conversion technologies used in pre-treatment.

AQUA EC 3000 – versatile deployment plus low-temperature option

Thanks to its tin- and lead-free formulation, the 2-component epoxy-based primer is REACH and HAPS compliant and permits a wide process window. This makes Aqua EC 3000 ideal for application on conductive substrates. Its good throwing power is also particularly convincing, as it facilitates the coating of parts with complex geometries or high rack densities. When it comes to layer thicknesses, the electrocoat also comes up trumps – more than 35 µm can be achieved. The coated surface exhibits first-rate corrosion protection, good mechanical properties and high chemical resistance. Aqua EC is therefore on the one hand an ideal solution for job coaters, since a wide range of OEM requirements for spare parts such as axles can be met. On the other hand, Aqua EC 3000 is the first choice of numerous European manufacturers of automotive parts and accessories, electrical cabinets, switchgear and computer components.

The universal electrocoat is available in a low-temperature version which cures from 150°C: Aqua EC 3000 LT. This allows for the coating of temperature-sensitive materials and also makes for cost savings.

Aqua EC 3000 AS has anti-squeak properties and is specially designed for the coating of car-seat parts. Thanks to its low friction coefficient, it prevents the generation of noise which is caused by contact of the metal and plastic parts in such seats.

Aqua EC 3000 UV is developed for applications requiring optimised UV resistance. The 2K epoxy/acrylic electrodeposition coating system is available in a single-layer version.

Aqua EC 5100 and EC 5500: single-layer electrocoats for optimum protection and more

The waterbased and lead-free systems Aqua EC 5100 and acrylic-based Aqua EC 5500 enable electrocoating using the efficient single-layer method to give superb coverage and colour stability. The coated surfaces are characterised by excellent corrosion protection, outstanding UV resistance as well as high resistance to mechanical wear and tear and weathering. The electrocoats are therefore ideal for the cost-effective serial coating of objects intended for outdoor use.

Aqua EC 5100 is a pigmented 2K electrocoat enabling optimum results using the single-layer method. Furthermore, its UV resistance is comparable to that of a 2K polyurethane topcoat. Due to its ability to obtain coating thicknesses of more than 35 µm in a single pass and thanks to its optimum protective properties, this version is often used for painting agricultural equipment and fork-lift trucks. Coating of household devices, window frames, door fittings and steel furniture is a further area of application for Aqua EC 5100.

One-component Aqua EC 5500 is available in pigmented and clear versions. Using the pigmented paints, which are offered in a wide range of colours, it is also possible to obtain coating thicknesses in excess of 35 µm. The broad scope of applications ranges from painting street and garden furniture, leisure and household equipment down to agricultural machinery and motor accessories. The transparent alternative of Aqua EC 5500 is applied above all as a decorative and protective clearcoat. Typical applications include the coating of clocks, jewellery, spectacle frames, electronic components, kitchen and bathroom fittings as well as furniture. The high-gloss layer protects surfaces against external factors and in general daily use.
