In celebration of the 2018 Olympics, here are some of the ways Axalta coatings have played a part in achieving victory.
Last year, many global skiers at the “Alpine World Ski Championship 2017” in Sankt Moritz, Switzerland had one thing in common, they raced on skis coated with Axalta high performing coating materials. In fact, eight of the ten gold medal recipients won wearing skis coated by Axalta. Axalta’s Stollpox, Aquapox, Cellonit and Aquacryl Special Primer, Printing Paint, and Clearcoats in solventborne and waterborne formulations have continued to make a name for themselves in the sporting goods market with major ski manufacturers including Atomic.
Fun Fact: Red is the most popular color coating for skis
2016 Olympic and Paralympic Torches
Axalta manufactures the Alesta® AP Polyester Architectural coating that was applied to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic torches. This coating selection from the Alesta “Star Collection” provided the performance and film properties needed to protect the 69-centimeter-high torches against environmental elements such as humidity, abrasion, weathering and, most importantly, the famous Olympic flame.
World Champion Philadelphia Eagles Goal Posts
Axalta gave the field goal posts at Lincoln Financial Field, home to the World Champion Philadelphia Eagles, a new look for the start of the football season with its premier industrial coating. Alesta® Polyester Architectural AE Gloss RAL 1016 in Sulfur Yellow was selected as the color and product of choice due to its high-performance coverage, durability, and functionality.

Formula One Race Cars
Spies Hecker®, one of Axalta’s three global refinish brands, is the Official Team Supplier of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. The brand has been responsible for the paint on the team’s Silver Arrows race cars for more than four years. The weight, quality, and durability of the paintwork are extremely important because the race cars must endure extremely tough track conditions. Mercedes-Benz is only the fourth constructor to win four consecutive titles, and Lewis Hamilton is just the fifth driver in the sport’s history to become a four-time World Champion. He is also now the most successful British Formula One driver in history. Each of Hamilton’s titles have been won with Mercedes-Benz power, and three of them at the wheel of a Silver Arrow.
